A timely article from one self-help group newsletter

The following is from a newsletter of a self-help group to which I belong. The name of the group is TOPS -"Take Off Pounds Sensibly" - here in the United States. The article was written by the head of the TOPS group for all their local leaders and groups...

The I bet you lead your TOPS chapter like Santa does his Workshop?

Santa and his team work all year through to accomplish wonderful things. So do you as a TOPS group leader

Santa’s Six Practical Strategies for Getting Big Things Done

I. Build a Wonderful Workshop and have the right tools for your group meetings:
· Make the mission the main thing
· Focus on your people as well as your purpose
· Let values be your guide. We value better health, sensible eating and caring support.

II. Choose Your Reindeer Wisely:
· Choose those who will support the purpose of the chapter and help everyone stay focused on their goals
· Select and elect the right ones for the right reasons
· Go for the diversity advantage... new ideas keep things lively

III. Make a List and Check It Twice:
· Plan your meeting
· Work your plan
· Make the most of what you have and use all the tools and talents

IV. Listen to the Elves:
· Open your ears to participation
· Pay attention to how you’re perceived
· Walk awhile in your members' shoes

V. Get Beyond the Red Wagons:
· Help everyone accept the reality of change in order to reach goals
· Remember: the members are really in charge
· Teach the purpose of the group every week

VI. Share the gifts:
· Help your members see the difference they make
· Do right by those who do right
· Expand your recognition and positive reinforcement activities.
